The B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center is seeking five new ninth-grade students from across the Delta to participate in its continuation of “Delta Memories: A Collective Memoir.”
The on-going oral history project, sponsored by the Museum and the Mississippi Humanities Council, will conduct and archive interviews with notable community members. The purpose of the oral history training is to present students with professional interviewing techniques, to introduce digital and archival techniques for collected interviews and to feature the collection on the Museum’s website.
Five highly motivated students will be chosen for the project. The students must be able to commit to an afternoon of training with Museum staff, plus two Saturday afternoons to conduct the interviews. The interview subjects will be at the discretion of Museum staff.
To participate, students are asked to submit a comprehensive essay about the person or topic they would like to interview and/or research and the reasons why. Student essays must be delivered to the Museum, no later than Friday, August 21. Selected participants will be notified during the following week. Training will begin Saturday, August 29, at 1:00 p.m. Oral History interviews will take place Saturdays, September 19 and October 24.
