Connie Gibbons, executive director of the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center in Indianola, will speak as part of the Millsaps Arts & Lecture Series on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Ford Academic Complex Recital Hall at Millsaps College.
Using archival film footage and sound clips, Gibbons will discuss native Mississippian and blues musician B.B. King, his music and the Mississippi Delta that inspired him. A live performance by blues musician Jerry Fair will showcase King’s signature sound.
The series, which is marking its 42nd year, will also include these programs: Peter and Kathleen Van De Graaff and their tribute to The Life and Love of Robert and Clara Schumann, on Feb. 16 at 7 p.m.; Jackson native Kathryn Stockett, speaking about what led her to write her bestselling novel, The Help, on March 23 at 7 p.m.; and music by Millsaps instructor and acclaimed baritone James Martin and friends on April 27 at 7 p.m. All programs are in the Ford Academic Complex Recital Hall.
